What is a moodboard?

My next assignments, I need to make a moodboard to create a living room. I wondered, what is a moodboard? I haven't heard of it at all. So, I made a lot of research from different sites and made a conclusion like below:

Moodboards , sometimes called inspiration boards, are used in a variety of disciplines. You've not doubt seen them used for interior design, where fabric swatches and paint chip samples are grouped together on a poster to show a homeowner what type of atmosphere the new decor will create. They are also used frequently in fashion to highlight trends and styles.
In essence, they are a compilation of inspirational elements used by designers to flesh out ideas at the beginning of a design project.

A moodboard is extremely useful for establishing the aesthetic feel of a design idea. Things that can be explored in the moodboard  include photography style, color palettes, typography, patterns, fabrics, etc.

I use a Moodboard app from A Tiny Tribe llc, to create my moodboard on my new ipad, it's a cool app. It's worth to try!

How to create a moodboard?
Gather together all your decorating ideas, any inspiring images, fabric swatches, wallpaper samples, color samples, etc and create a storyboard on an A3-size piece of plain card or in a large, plain notebook.

Choose your base color
Whether it's a flooring or a wall color, this represents the largest area of color in your room, so it's important to add a large sample of it to your moodboard. Adding carpet samples helps you think about texture too.

Add an accent
This is an important decision. Do you go for a dramatic contrast? or an accent just a few tones away from your base color? Use your moodboard to play around with options and layer up the board with swatches and scraps.

Create mood with accessories
These will really set the tone for your decorating scheme - go for accessories which share a vibrant accent color, and stick to a single theme, maybe purple, vintage, or country or eastern. Don't get carried away and mix up different styles, or your scheme will end up looking messy rather than eclectic.
